5G or fifth generation network is the latest technology for telecommunications that exceeds 4G standards. The latest cellular technology will be available in Indonesia in mid-2021. This 5G network has speed up from 10 to 20 times the speed of the previous generation.
The emergence of 5G technology is intended to provide convenience to users in terms of data speed, low latency, wide network connections and higher network capacity. With this 5G technology, we are able to access the internet 500% faster than 4G LTE.
The inventor of 5G technology is a German national who is also a physicist with a PhD, namely Michael Lemke. Research to launch 5G technology has been started since 2016, to be precise at Dresden University of Technology, Germany.
5G technology, which is fast-paced and brings many changes, certainly has its advantages and disadvantages, including:
Excess:
- Better Transmission Speed
- No Delay
- Better Connection
- Energy saving
- Efficient Business Process
Lack:
- Huge Development Cost
- Lack of Information
- Limited Reach
- Radio Frequency Too Full
- Privacy and Security Issues
5G technology is still under maintenance at the moment and it will take time to find solutions to the shortcomings of this technology. But in the future, of course, these shortcomings can be overcome, especially with the help of experts in their fields.
The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) stated that there will be more 5G network locations in Indonesia by 2022. The government will continue to develop digital infrastructure that reaches the entire country. Currently, only 9 cities can access 5G services, namely Jabodetabek, Bandung, Batam, Balikpapan, Makassar, Surakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar and Medan. In terms of new providers, there are three companies that provide 5G services, namely Telkomsel, XL and Indosat.
Quoted from Detik.com Ismail as Director General of SDPPI said that in 2022 we estimate that there will be a massive increase in the acceleration of 5G development. This is in line with increasingly global trends, such as Augmented Reality and various implementations of 5G use cases. With this, it is hoped that the 5G network can be evenly distributed throughout the country.
